If you're driving to Tannersville for the first time, you will need an online map or GPS. Don't panic, it's not that far out of the way. And we promise the scenery more than makes up for the drive.
Take I-87 North to exit 20 (Saugerties), travel north on Route 32 to Route 32A North to 23A West. After 7 miles, you will see the Sun View sign on your right.
From the north/Albany:
Take I-87 South to exit 21 (Catskill), travel East on Route 23 then onto 23A west. After 20 miles you'll see the Sun View sign on your right.
Chef Justin in particular had a good time with this one. We really wanted a Dyson Air Blade hand dryer, but the fuses in our apartment can't handle the power.
We may only have one traffic light, but Tannersville is full of great summer activities and we encourage you to take advantage when you visit!
Zipline: The longest & highest zipline canopy tour in North America has recently opened at Hunter Mountain (website). Just image how green this will look in summer!
Hunter Mountain: Ride the SkyRide to the top of Hunter Mountain for the best view in town. Being on a chairlift in sneakers is weird, but we highly recommend you give this one a try. (website)
North/South Lake - NY State Park: Hiking, swimming, canoeing and camping are all just minutes away in this beautiful State Park. (website)
Woodstock, NY: Woodstock is the closest thing in San Francisco we'll find back east. Just a 30 minute drive from Tannersville, it makes an excellent day trip. You can stop off in nearby Bearsville, the actual site of the original Woodstock festival. (website)
The Drive-In: Shannon will run this thing herself for one night if she has to! Hopefully it will be open this summer, because we bet most of you have never seen a movie under the stars. Double-features start at dark.
Local secrets: The best unmarked spots on the map are overlooks, hiking trails and swimming holes that only we know about (or in some cases, we invented them). Pack your outdoor gear and we'll be happy to give you the inside track.
The nearest airports are Albany (ALB) and Stewart (SWF). Each is just over an hour drive from Tannersville.
The nearest major metro airport is Newark (EWR). Yes it's weird because that's in NJ, but it is closer and quicker than JFK or LaGuardia. Transport between these airports and Tannersville is available via train, bus and commuter rail but it's not very direct.
Let's be honest - you pretty much need a car to make this work. If you're traveling in, send us your info and we can try to pair you up with other people who might be offering rides or arriving/departing at the same time. We'll even be making some airport pickup runs ourselves.
Bride's Side:
Doria Goodrich - Maid of Honor, Shannon's best friend and partner in crime since junior high.
Matt Danelo - The Bridesman, Texas ambassador and future PhD.
Groom's Side:
Mark Brinda - Best Man. In an attempt to be like Justin, Mark is getting married in July.
David Moore - The Groomsman, Justin's older, wiser brother.
Tannersville, NY is 2 hours north of NYC and 1 hour south of Albany. It's off NYS Thruway exits 20 or 21, and situated in the Catskill Mountains along Rte 23A. Tannersville website
The ceremony will be outdoors and the exact location is still being debated. Our reception will be held on the grounds of the Sun View (website - hey, that's our tent!).
Shannon grew up across the street from the Sun View at the Snowed Inn (website - you can see me modeling local attractions under 'images').
